I Got Divorced Because I Couldn’t Trust Her

Can You Be Trusted?

If you look in the  Encarta Dictionary you’ll find the following,

  1. reliance – confidence in and reliance on good qualities, especially fairness, truth, honour or ability.
  2. position of obligation – the position of somebody who is expected by others to behave responsibly or honourably.
  3. Responsibility for taking good care of somebody / something.

That pretty well sums up what we expect of our partners – whether or not we are married to them.

We think we should be able to rely on them to be fair, honest and honourable, we expect that they will behave responsibly and take good care of us. And they expect the same from us.

Being trustworthy is paramount in maintaining your marriage or relationship and it isn’t that difficult.

  • Do what you say you will do.  Truth / Honesty
  • Be on time. Responsibility / Fairness
  • Stick to the budget – do not exceed your agreed credit card spend. Truth / fairness.
  • Go where you say you are going, do not say you are working late then go to the bar. Honesty.
  • Check in with your partner daily about how his / her day went. Taking good care.
  • Be with the people you say you will be with. Honesty / Fairness
  • Do your share of the chores etc., Fairness / Caring
  • Be a good role model for your family. Honour / Caring
  • Manage your feelings, talk about them, don’t act out.  Honour / Honesty / Caring.

Trust is not just about not having sex with anybody else. Trust is about being the person that your partner and family can rely on to do the best for all of you regardless of the situation.  Trust is about working WIN / WIN  every time.

One of my favourite authors, Stephen Covey has written a book all about Trust, ‘The Speed of Trust’

Trustworthy people get ahead, in their careers, in the market place, in relationships, socially, in sport, in life!

If you find that you miss out on promotions or
your relationships fall over or you seem to be in strife most of the time it may well be that you need to look at how trustworthy you are, everything you do reflects on the life you build.

Likewise take a look at the people you spend time with, do they let you down, are they often late, do they tell lies, do they do as little as possible to get the job done…….  How do you feel about that?

It is hurtful when someone breaks your trust – lets you down.  Many relationships die because one partner is not trustworthy.

The choice is yours, trustworthy or not?

The only way to get your life back on track is put large deposits in your ‘trust’ account.
