10 Tips To Reinvent Yourself After Your Divorce.

You know how you feel when you look in your wardrobe full of clothes and you have nothing to wear!

It’s the same feeling when you put on your make-up in the morning and think you don’t look any better.

It’s no wonder , after the upset and drama of splitting from your partner and possibly having to relocate yourself and your belongings, that you feel a bit jaded, in need of a boost.

Here you go then, 10 tips to give yourself a boost after your divorce.

  1. Go window shopping, try on clothes – but don’t buy today, make a note of the colours you look best in and which styles flatter you most. Ask the staff for help, but make it clear you are not buying today so that they don’t pressure you. They will do their best because they will want you to come back when you are ready to buy.
  2. Once you have decided which colours you think suit you best go to the scarf department and drape the colours across your shoulders, block out any other colour you are wearing, make sure the colours you chose are right for you. Again ask for help.
  3. Next stop the make-up department, ask for help with colours to match your skin tone – again you are not buying today. Good quality brands always have trained staff on their counters to help customers choose what is right for them. You may have to make an appointment but they will do your face for you.
  4. Hairdresser next. If you have a good relationship with your current hairdresser tell her / him what you are doing ask for a new style or colour – or both! If your hairdresser doesn’t listen or isn’t creative, get a new one.
  5. Make an appointment with your health practitioner for a full health check, weight, cholesterol, heart, fitness. This is really worth it and will help you set goals that will enable you to live a longer healthier life.
  6. Make a list of the people you spend time with. Get two highlighters, different colours, use one for the people that make you feel better and the other for the ones that leave you feeling flat – now you have to be a bit ruthless here, gradually you are going to see less and less of the ones that bring you down and as fast as you can, you should arrange to spend more time with the people that make you feel good.
  7. Your career may have slowed up while you were dealing with the emotional upheaval of your separation, if so, it’s time to see your boss. Make an appointment to talk through your career path for the next five years. Talk about training, promotion, salary. This is vitally important, you are a sole earner now and you need to get paid what you are worth. If your boss doesn’t have opportunities for you it could be a good idea to begin looking for another employer.
  8. Book yourself in to your local day spa for a massage and facial, have your legs waxed, get all the pampering you can afford.
  9. Go back to the shops you visited and buy two new outfits and some new make-up.

10. Make an appointment with a portrait photographer, get you hair done, put on your new make-up and your new clothes and get a range of portrait photos taken.  Great, you’re looking fabulous and you have the evidence to prove it!

These 10 steps will help you get your life back on track – and you’ll know that you are looking your best, whatever life brings.

Get your favourite photo framed and put it where you will see it every day. This is your new standard. No more slopping around, from now you dress as though you may meet someone that could make a difference in your life. Even if you are doing housework or gardening, put your make-up on and make sure you are clean and tidy.
