Are your friends stopping you from getting your life back on track?

“Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken or written. Do not believe in traditions just because they have been handed down. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and benefits all, then accept it and live up to it. THE BUDDHA (c.563-483B.C.)

This quote was in a magazine I read recently, I wanted to share it with you because it is a good reminder for us not to accept things at face value.

You may not realise just how easily you are influenced, especially by television and other visual media, even your friends opinions can have a deep and lasting effect on you. You have to be the right weight, wear the right clothes etc., etc.

It’s a bit like being at school, if you’re not in with the ‘in’ crowd, you are out!

But you are not at school and it is O.K. to be yourself. Getting your life back on track is not about jumping on the latest band wagon, it’s about finding out what you really would like to do with your life. It’s about taking time to reflect on your past and the lessons you can learn, remembering your passions and getting back in touch with them, mapping out how you would like your life to be from now on and setting out on that track one step at a time.

“But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and benefits all, then accept it and live up to it. THE BUDDHA (c.563-483B.C.)

When you are working to get your life back on track the above sentence says it all. Observe and analyse what is going on, why you do things the way you do. When you understand the reasons for your behaviour and if what you do benefits all then proceed. However, if you observe analyse and realise that what you do does not benefit all it’s time to make a new plan.

Anger and resentment hurt the one that carries them much more than the one they are directed at.

To move forward with your life forgive, release the anger, be grateful for what you have and can experience right now.

Getting your life back on track, especially after a major upset such as a divorce is not easy, it does take time, but it is an opportunity to create the life you want.

Sometimes the easiest way to get started is to focus on what you can do for other people. Giving your time and skills brings happiness, a sense of achievement and builds confidence, as well as benefitting the people you help.

So, don’t believe everything that you hear, see or read, don’t feel under pressure to what others expect of you. Be clear about what you want to do, understand your reasons for wanting to do it and if it benefits all go ahead and do it.

Best wishes, the rest of your life can be the best of your life.
