What do you do when the road is flooded?

When the road floods do you abandon the trip or find another route? When you are faced with a problem, do you give up or try to find a solution?

I’m always interested to observe how people cope with extreme weather or natural disasters, e.g. earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions.
It seems to me that there are two groups of people, those who throw up their hands in horror, proclaiming this is the worst thing that has ever happened, and the world will surely come to a standstill, and the other group sets about DOING what needs to be done.

Some of my friends were stranded when flights in and out of Europe and the U.K. were stopped by the Icelandic volcanic eruption, one had to spend and extra 10 days in L.A. – was she worried, not at all, she accepted the gift of a holiday extension. Another left in Copenhagen for only two days thought the world would come to an end, she was trying to email papers, fax papers, call people etc. etc., did it matter, not at all, her company postponed all meeting until staff were back in the U.K.

Isn’t it good to have a reminder that we don’t control nature, we can do our best to help, we can certainly do things that cause damage, but we can’t control. We can make contingency plans and we can clean up the mess afterwards but we have to accept what we get.

It has been very wet in South Canterbury over the last few days, flooding has occurred, roads have been closed, people have had to evacuate their houses, stock has been mover to higher ground, it has been a busy time. I wonder how many people stopped to reflect that for the last six months or so nearly everybody has been calling and praying for rain – were their prayers answered, I’ll let you decide.

Back to where we started, if the road ahead is closed what do you do?
Do you give up and go home or do you try to find another route?
If life gives you a lemon do you pull a face and sulk or do you make lemonade?

If you are struggling to make lemonade from your lemons or if you are sitting at a road block wondering what to do find your recipe for lemonade in our free 21 day course, How To Improve Your Life, http://www.yemanyacoaching.com/ecourses/21-day-course/
